Beck DVD Volume 2
I should have written these reviews as I watched the DVDs. Beck is an anime that grabs hold of you and makes you keep watching. I wound up watching both of ‘em and that means the reviews are gonna be going up back to back. I thought about writing one review for both discs, but Beck deserves more than that.
Story
Koyuki is still working his butt off to earn the money he needs to fix Ryuusuke’s guitar. Until it’s fixed he does his best to avoid Ryuusuke and the others, but he can’t avoid Maho even if he wanted to.
Koyuki is also having trouble avoiding a jerk named Masaru Hyodo that goes to his school. The creep manages to get some leverage and uses it to make Koyuki his errand boy. That goes on for a while. Things start to turn around when Masaru’s plan to embarrass Koyuki at the sports festival backfires.
Masaru isn’t the only new friend he makes at school. There’s also Saku, a new transfer student that’s into music as much as Koyuki, maybe even more.
The entire time, Koyuki continues to work hard to get better with the guitar.
My Opinion
I wish I had half the dedication and passion for anything that Koyuki has for music. That is one of the things I love about Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad. Koyuki has talent, but he works hard to make the most of it. Even when he gets good, he always tries to be better. Always pushing himself to be better tomorrow than he is today.
The extras on this disc are sparse. A music video and textless themes, including the awesome opening theme by Beat Crusaders.
That’s pretty much it.
Is it worth it?
Always.
