Chrono Crusade Anime

Almost every time I’ve seen Chrono Crusade discussed I’ve seen people rave about it. I expected a lot more from this anime. It has good points, but I don’t know if I can’t get past the parts that bug me.
Story
New York was a tough city in 1928. What with all the devils and undead roaming around. Good thing they had the Magdalene Order to fight the supernatural horrors.
Rosette Christopher is a member of the Magdalene Order, but for her the fight is personal. Her brother was taken by the devils. She fights the forces of evil in order to find him again. Rosette has some help though. She’s assisted by a devil named Chrono. The head of the Order doesn’t trust him, but Rosette believes he is different.
My Opinion
I can see why Chrono Crusade has quite a few fans. It’s got some decent action, a bit of humor and some likeable characters. That’s why I decided to give it another chance after being disappointed by it before.
I just don’t think it lives up to the praises it receives. I’ve watched several episodes and there are some inconsistencies that bug me.
The anime is set in 1928, and it tries to reinforce that with language and references. However, in 1928 the guns and other technology used wouldn’t have been available. I know that the Magdalene Order is doing important work and would likely have access to the most advanced weapons and gadgets, but the tech in the show is nowhere near believable for that time period. Not by a long shot. That combined with the anime trying too hard to remind you that it’s 1928 is just too much.
Is it worth it?
Nope, not really. It tries too hard to convince you of the time period while it ignores the realities of that time. Catholics might also be put off by the way the church is represented.
If you don’t care about inconsistencies, or religious references, then you might want to rent it. I can’t recommend purchasing this anime though.

Awite, dude. Here’s one where I’m going to have to disagree with you.
Now, yes, it doesn’t bother me how the church is represented. The play on devils and angels is rather far-fetched from our typical knowledge, as well. You could also sit down and evalute the relationship between Rosette and Chrono on so many other levels, but that’s taking things further than needed for this introductory post. These reasons are probably why I really like the series.
Now, as far as inconsistencies, I’ll agree; but, only if you watch just the first 3 episodes. It does jump around quite a bit. Now, in argument of that, how many other series (anime or otherwise) when starting out did the same thing? Maybe it only had a few episodes done as a pilot (not normal for anime, I know). And how often does representation of actuality and reality come into play on an obviously fictitious story?
Give it a chance, dude. By the time you get to episode 6, you’ll be so wrapped up in the story, you’ll have to keep watching.
To prevent spoilers, I’ll say that response to the ending, however, is up to you to decide on.

It was bound to happen sooner or later. *L*
I watched 7 eps. I agree that the story improves after about the 4th episode. The story isn’t the problem for me. There are several little things about it that bug the hell outta me. They’re not even important things, but when they come up I’m ejected from the story.
I want to like this anime, I really do. It should be the kind of thing I’d love. It’s got action and humor in a very nice art style. I just can’t get past the things that bug me about it.
