Death Note Remake and Casting Call

by

Light, Ryuk and L of Death Note

For details on the (bad) news check out Anime News Network’s post.

Looks like there’s a new and exciting way of making movies n Hollywood. You just find something that’s popular overseas, then cut a deal to remake it. It doesn’t even have to be a good remake. All it needs is a recognizable name on the poster. It’s worked really well for horror movies. Now it’s anime’s turn.

Yes, it looks like the same people that brought us The Grudge have gotten their little claws on Death Note. I can only hope that it’s treated with all the respect it deserves. It won’t be, but I can hope.

In that spirit, I’d like to start up another Casting Call.

Death Note Casting Call

Rules for Free Manga

  1. This Casting Call ends June 30, 2008.
  2. Cast the full list.
  3. Leave a real, valid, E-Mail address so I can find out where to send your manga if you’re selected.

Right now I’m leaning towards asking for humor casting or even the worst cast possible. So which one you decide to do is up to you.

You can cast any of the characters you want to, but there is a list of characters you need to cast to be in the running for free manga. I’ll keep the list short this time. Here is the list of characters I’d like to see cast.

The List

  • Light
  • L
  • Ryuk
  • Misa

Cast each of these to be in the running for some grab bag style free manga.

I’m looking forward to seeing who you’d cast.

Ryuk - CGI / Motion capture and voiced by Brian drummond (The English Voice Actor)

    Misa - Kirsten Bell

  4. Jason Says:

    Good cast.

The only one I disagree with is Misa. Kirsten Bell is beautiful, but Misa is more of a cute girl. That’s the way she seems to me. Kirsten could do the part very well though.

  5. Jenna Says:

ok, honestly i cant think of the PERFECT cast. but this is what i came up with….
and let me just say that zac efron was no where even considered in this cast. ew.

Light - Alex Pettyfer (with longer brown hair)

L - Joseph Levitt OR Avan Jogia

Ryuk - they should just animate him and use the same voice Brian Drummond

    Misa - Taylor Momsen

    Matsuda - Zach Braff

Near - Liam Aiken (Series of Unfortunate Events)

Mellow - Nolan Gerard Funk (not really for looks but for attitude)

    okay. thats all(:

  6. Jason Says:

Nice cast Jenna. I really like the choice of Zach Braff as Matsuda. I think he’d really be able to capture the goofiness of that character well.

  7. Jenna Says:

okay (im really sorry) but i need to edit my cast. im so bad at making decisions!

    Light - Will Denton

    L - Joseph Levitt

Ryuk - do the animation thing

    Misa - Taylor Momsen

Matsuda - Zach Braff (glad you like it!)

    Near - Liem Aiken

    Mellow - Michael Pitt

    Matt - Gaspard Ulliel

Con Artist whos name escapes me - Liam Neeson

this will hopefully be the last time! hehehe.

  8. Jason Says:

I understand. I change my mind about this kind of thing all the time. There are only a handful of casting choices that I doubt I’ll change my mind about.

  9. Nina Says:

Light- maybe Ed Westwick from Gossip Girl, he seems to have that evil look in his eyes

Misa- Emily Browning from a Series if Unfortunate Events

L/Matsuda- Matthew Gray Gublar from Criminal Minds

    Matt- Justin Chatwin from DBZ

  10. krispy Says:

    Light - Devon Graye
    L - Lou Taylor Pucci
    Ryuk - Johnny Depp
    Misa - Taylor Momsen
    Mikami - Cillian Murphy
    Near - Liam Aiken
    Mello - Michael Pitt
    Yagami Sr. - Liam Neeson

  11. Jason Says:

@ krispy>> You got three winners there. Misa, Near and Soichiro Yagami. Nailed ‘em. I think they’d be perfect.

The rest…. Nah. I just don’t see it.

  12. Dani Says:

    L- Takeshi Kaneshiro

  13. G Says:

I Think 4 some random reason Marilyn Manson Should Voice Ryuk A(And He Should B Animated) Becoz in a video (link at bottom of this responce) manson looks like he has cosplayed as Ryuk so I think Manson likes the Charater so he could play the part well. The Video I Metioned: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_X270rhuRHo

  14. Jason Says:

Considering that’s a few years older than Death Note, I don’t think he’s cosplaying as Ryuk. There is a a very strong resemblance in a few shots though.

    Cool find.

  15. helgajurk Says:
