Hellsing Manga Volume 1
Story
The Hellsing Agency, part of the Order of Royal Protestant Knights, are charged with protecting Queen, Country and Church from the monsters that lurk in the dark. If the dead rise to torment the living, Hellsing will be there to lay them to rest, a final rest.
The Order and Agency have enemies, powerful enemies. Section XIII, Iscariot, the Vatican’s unofficial enforcement squad are at the top of the list.
My Opinion
I’ve talked about the Hellsing, as well as Hellsing Ultimate, anime. I haven’t talked about the Hellsing manga though, and I thought it was about time I got around to it.
If you’ve seen the anime versions then you’re aware of the stylish art which helps to give this vampire story a very cool edge. There differences in the art in the two versions of the anime, and those differences extend to the manga.
The art of Hellsing in it’s manga form shares certain similarities with both anime. For the most part it reminds me more of the first anime, but with frequent moments of stylishly exaggerated proportion that is a lot more common in the Ultimate anime. The manga version doesn’t have the super clean look of the Ultimate anime though, which I think is a point in it’s favor. There’s a roughness around the edges of the manga art that lend a sort of atmosphere to the story that it’s trying to tell.
Is it worth it?
If you like vampires and you like manga, then you have to read Hellsing. It’s a law or something. Besides, it is awesome.
Vampires with big boobs, bigger guns and more attitude than can be learned in one lifetime. What more could you want?
