I’m Becoming More Critical

When I reviewed the Midori Days Volume 1 DVD I mentioned that the way I watch anime is changing. I think it’s because I’m writing anime reviews. When I watch an anime now I don’t just sit there and enjoy it. I’m actively looking for things to write about. I’m not sure that’s a good thing.
Oh it has it’s good points. I notice more about what I’m watching now. I’m beginning to recognize some of the names in the credits, more than before anyway. I think I’m even beginning to like more types of anime. I’m just not sure if I’m enjoying it as much as I used to.
I still enjoy anime, I’m just wondering if I would have gotten more enjoyment out of some of the shows I’ve watched recently if I wasn’t sizing it up in my head. Would I be more forgiving of an anime’s faults if I wasn’t trying to decide if I should recommend it? Would you judge something more harshly if you knew you would be giving your opinion of it?
Perhaps it has nothing to do with the reviews or the blog. Maybe I’m just becoming more demanding as an anime viewer. It could just be the natural evolution of anime fandom. Could I be desensitizing myself to the simple joys of animation? That’s not a pleasant thought. I certainly hope that’s not it.
Have you noticed anything like this? Have you become more critical of anime the more you watch it? Should I be worried about this?
Fell free to leave a comment. I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Hi, I’m new XD
Anyway, here’s what I have think. It’s just a natural evolution. I also have become more crital of art, stories and even voice actors becuase I’ve seen ones where the people really cared about what they were doing and ones less so. But I’ve nopticed if I just step back a little and not focus on compareing, it can be a little more enjoyable, even if it’s crap. I dont get paid to review anime though.
BUt since you have this review thing, maybe you should watch it once, not to review but just for the lovins, and then agian for the review part, you may stop being as critcal.
I dont know, that’s just a thought I had.

Hi Cho! Welcome aboard.
It’s just a natural evolution. I also have become more crital of art, stories and even voice actors becuase I’ve seen ones where the people really cared about what they were doing and ones less so.
So I’m more critical of anime because I’ve seen enough to know good anime from bad? I hadn’t thought of that.
I dont get paid to review anime though. BUt since you have this review thing, maybe you should watch it once, not to review but just for the lovins, and then agian for the review part, you may stop being as critcal.
Oh, good suggestion! I’m gonna have to try that. Just turn of the reviewer and try to enjoy the show. I can watch it again to get the info I need. Might take a little practice though.
Thanks for the comment. I really appreciate it that you took the time to respond.
