Loveless Anime

Ok, I gave Loveless another chance. I was less than impressed with the Loveless manga, so this time I checked out the anime version.
Anime Improvements
The Loveless anime isn’t as confusing as the manga. That’s a great improvement. I think I can see what the manga was going for after watching the anime. It looks like it was trying to be mysterious, and was just poorly handled in the beginning. I don’t know if it improved any as the manga progressed because I stopped reading it. I got a little farther into the story with the anime.
The art in the anime is better than the manga. It could just be that it’s animated, but the characters seem a bit more real. As far as the art goes, that’s good. However it also makes the creepy parts, well, more creepy.
As far as improvement over the manga, that’s about it.
Disturbing Behavior
Ritsuka is a very emotionally disturbed kid, that’s sad enough. Then you got a creepy guy stalking him and saying he loves him? That’s just too much.
My Opinion
The Loveless anime is a marginal improvement over the manga. Unfortunately, it’s not enough of an improvement. Even with the story making a bit more sense in the anime, it’s still a bad story.
I feel really bad for poor Ritsuka. The kid is messed up.
Is it worth it?
No, it’s not. It’s a little better than the manga, but that’s not saying much. There are much better anime to spend your money on, even if you’re just renting it. Get one of those and avoid Loveless.

I disagree. Although some people aren’t a fan of this kind of thing, yaoi, I still think that this anime/manga is quite good. It has a solid plot and the volumes and episodes are always quite exciting. I enjoy the relationship between Soubi and Ritsuka. You obviously didn’t. But hey, Ritsuka felt the same way as you. At first he was just excited about being friends with Soubi, it’s not his fault that he’s sort of messed up b/c of his brother’s alleged death. However, later Ritsuka gets suspicious, so you gotta give him that. I’m not sure I was just assuming you thought it was odd with the 20 yr old and the 12 yr old. I find it rather odd as well, but definitely cute. I mean, you know the whole uke seme stuff, this one was perfect for that sort of guideline. But hey, it’s manga. Love it or trash it, just please don’t bash it.

The yaoi aspect didn’t bother me. I thought the age difference was kind of disturbing. It’d be a different story if there was the same difference, but Ritsuka was about 20 years old. A 12 year old though? Nope, that bothers me.
I’d probably still think his reaction was strange. He’s messed up though, so his reactions aren’t going to be normal. I don’t think being messed up is his fault at all. I feel bad for him.
This is all just my opinion. If you like Loveless, that’s cool with me.
