Tokyo Underground Anime

Tokyo Underground is a few years old, but I just found it. I’m surprised I haven’t heard of this anime before. It’s pretty good. Sure, it’s not without it’s problems, but I’ve seen worse anime that was pretty darn popular.
Just to make things worse, it was licensed by Geneon. That means it’s probably gonna disappear now that Geneon’s US branch is out of commission. So unless you live in Canada, where I think it’s on G4, you’ll probably need to find a good place to rent anime to see it.
Story
Deep beneath Tokyo there lies another world. A world where people command the forces of nature. From this world 2 people have escaped to the surface.
Ruri Sarasa holds an incredible but dangerous power, the power of life itself. Those in charge of the Underground want to use her power for their own plans, but Chelsea Rorec helped her to escape. When they get to the surface world of Tokyo they meet Rumina Asagi and his best friend Ginnosuke Isuzu.
Rumina has been trained in martial arts, but is not prepared for the battles to come when he decides to take Ruri and Chelsea under his protection.
Art
The art is ok, but it seems a bit dated to me. It reminds me of some anime for kids from a few years back, maybe because that’s what it is. There’s nothing really wrong with it though. It fits the story pretty well.
The only thing that really bothered me about the art was the resemblance Ruri has to the title character from Karin, A.K.A. Chibi Vampire.
My Opinion
I like Tokyo Underground. I only wish I’d found it a lot earlier. It’s got action and humor, 2 things I like in anime. There’s also a little bit of romance between Ruri and Rumina. I enjoyed watching the few episodes I saw, but I kept expecting Ruri to get explosive nosebleeds. Did I mention she looks just like Karin?
Is it worth it?
Tokyo Underground is a rental. I liked what I saw, but the story and art might be a bit childish for some. Besides, rental is probably your best chance to see it if you don’t get Canadian G4 or another channel that’s already running it.
