Toonami Cancelled

Cartoon Network has cancelled Toonami. Cancelled. Toonami. Cartoon Network has made some bad, bad, choices, but this has to be one of the worst.
Over the last few years Cartoon Network has done a lot of things that are, well… stupid. I’ve really had no choice but to go along with it and try to accept the things I cannot change. I had to accept the fact that Toonami was replaced by Miguzi, before Miguzi was cancelled. I had to accept it when Toonami was cut back to almost nothing, just one show on Saturday night.
I always had hope, no matter how small, that Cartoon Network would realize the mistakes they were making. I had hope that Toonami would get the respect, and programming, that it deserved. Today the last of my hope is being drained away.
Toonami Set The Tone
Without Toonami we would never have had similar programming blocks like [adult swim], and yes, even the short lived Miguzi. Toonami was the very essence of Cartoon Network. Cool cartoons presented in an even cooler way. Now the cool is gone.
Why Cancel?
Could things have been handled differently? I think so. They could have taken Toonami back to it’s roots. They could have gone back to running the best action cartoons they could get hold of. Not only that, they could have gone back to making some of the best action cartoons. They already make cartoons like Ben Ten: Alien Force. So why not put that on Toonami? Add some action anime, like the Naruto episodes that they’re already playing, and they’re well on their way.
Toonami didn’t need to be canceled. Whoever made that call needs to be fired.
From a cannon.

Oh are you serious…
First they get rid of Dragonball, Gundam, and Rurouni Kenshin.
Then they destroy the original cartoons.
Then they put Naruto through a fucking MEAT GRINDER and put that dubbed piece of shit on the air.
Then they make these new cartoons about purple little kids with bras on their heads?
Then they destroy Toonami totally?! WHAT THE HELL!?

They could have easily, with no wasted or spent resources, thrown Ben 10, Naruto, and moved maybe *ONE* Adult Swim anime (Bleach?) into a block and called it Toonami, and it would be mildly successful. In fact, if they reacquired Reboot and played that, or got a license for some other popular anime for a single playthrough they could have easily salvaged Toonami.
What did they do? B&hammer? Is that really the answer? No. CN has failed once again.
I’ll still watch [Adult Swim] but damn I wish they would move some good programming to daytime TV. I guess they figure noone watches daytime TV. Ever.
(Well I do, and all CN is is infinite replays of Chowder, Flapjack, Total Drama Island, and Johnny Test. That’s it. UGH. MAKES ME SICK)

Yeah, this is the way that Cartoon Network is going. Last week I cut Adult Swim off 100% because they pushed Code Geass and Moribito back to the 5 AM Death Timeslot. Then, just one week later, to my cousin’s consolation, “Well, at least you still have Naruto on Toonami” I hear poor mutilated Tom tell us that this is Toonami’s final transmission?! What the hell??? Well, fine, let them do this. I enjoy Flapjack and Chowder, as they have that random bizarre humor that I enjoy, and I’ll probably DVR the new season of the Venture Bros when it hits, but I’m done with the channel otherwise. And I’m gonna make it a point to avoid buying ANYTHING that’s advertised on their channel. It’s bullcrap, and I’m just plain done.

Yup, I’m sad as well that Toonami is officially dead, though its been living a slow agonizing life in ‘08 when a lot of the good animes got pulled out in favor of very crappy looking cartoons.
Why would I want to watch Total Drama Island, very boring show btw, when there’s already LIVE reality shows and that Drawn Together. I played it cool when Futurama went over to Comedy Central, but Toonami’s death is the last straw.
September 22nd, 2008 at 1:42 pm
Adult swim, for anime, died when they moved Code Geass and Moribito to 5am and 5:30am. And in their place? Mostly crap. I like Metal and Frisky…
And now toonami is out? What the hell damn guy? And hearing him say ‘bang’ and the end of the last toonami made me realize who did that voice. I couldn’t believe I didn’t know that till he said bang…

I flipping cried when I found that out! How teh hell could these guys do that to us! They could have easily fixed this whole mess by just by getting rid of that god damned idiotic shit they call “Chowder” or “Total Drama Island” GOD! do they realize that shit melts childrens brains! And WHY SO SUDDENLY TOO!!! They could have warned us ahead of time! instead of litterally coming out of no where and cancelling it!
Cartoon Network has done some of the stupidest things over the past couple of years but
CANCELLING TOONAMI IS GOING WAY TOO FAR!!
I say we should go to the Cartoon Network headquarters, rip off their friggin heads, throw them down the Grande Canyon, take over, and Have the whole stinkin channel called TOONAMI: TOM FOREVER!
With only the BEST OF THE BEST ANIMES!!!

The WORST part, maybe even more than the actual cancelling, is that it just came so suddenly. The first I even heard about it was the moment Tom came on and said, “Well, it’s been swell, but this is our last broadcast. Ciao.” And that was right at the very end of darn Samurai Jack.
CN’s action block is supposed to be shifted to Friday nights, with the Clone Wars, the new Ben 10 season (from what I’ve heard), and that Secret Saturdays deal. I’m still holding out some kind of faith in this new block (after all, it can’t get much worse than that YGO ripoff “Bakugan”), but the worst kind of blasphemy would be for them to replace the Saturday block with something like Johnny Test or Total Drama Island. (Still better than those “Scrubs” reruns on Comedy Central, I guess.)
As for “Naruto,” which was the only anime left on friggin’ Toonami, it would make more sense for Adult Swim to just take over and air Shippuden. I can’t even imagine CN bothering to finish the filler episodes, especially when they fed all kinds of other worthwhile animes to the shredder. (What the heck happened to Yu Yu Hakusho?)
Oh, and for the record, “anime” is not the only way to go. The Secret Saturdays, for instance, looks way more interesting than the Eastern-style ripoff they ended up doing with the new Transformers cartoon, which just looks God awful.
Tom: (Throws money at camera) “You want anime? Go buy some bootleg DVD’s, you f**ks.” (Finishes the whiskey…)

Now this is just plain pathetic. How the hell do you go from doing changes and then some months later you decide to throw it all away?! What a retarded waste of funds that could have been used for licensing.
I origionally thought I was just getting older and out of watching cartoons, oh no. Toonami has been throwing itself away since 2003 and whatever the hell they did in the change made it official, Toonami was LITERALLY dead.
Now there may be a chance that Toonami will come back or something like a reencarnation of it who knows? If they can make something that was as cool as they did back then, Cartoon Network will be headed back in the right direction, but as it stands there is no reason to love or even like CN anymore outside Adult Swim.
The only thing I have to say is R.I.P. Toonami. You gave us many things to love back then, but now the love is gone and may never be the same

That’s a KILLER idea!
I guess we can’t go cold turkey on CN. Not if we want to avoid buying ANYTHING that’s advertised on their channel.
Let’s see…there’s those Crazy Color Pens, that electronic dinosaur, there’s “Hulk SMASH!” the game, anything Polly Pocket or Barbie (leave it to them to air doll ads during “Naruto”), LifeAlert (well, that’s actually a life-or-death decision), those High School Musical dolls, Gerber Life Insurance, Tyco R/C, Bakugan Battle Brawlers, Batman toys (I’ve seen some for the Dark Knight), those Naruto action figures and trading cards…some of this has actually been advertised during Toonami, and even Adult Swim!
Man, that’s a lot of stuff to not buy. I hope we can all survive…

OK, so I’m kinda monopolizing this page now, but here’s what I’ve picked up so far in terms of CN sponsors…
Pop-Tarts
Disney Baby Princess Dolls
Barbie
DACS (Digital Arts & Crafts Studio)
Chuck E. Cheese’s
My Little Pony (idk either…)
MyLife
Mr. Men
Disco-Dancin’ Wubzy (I’m assuming this includes anything “Wubzy”-related)
“This is Serious-Ming Ming”
Winnie the Pooh-Super Sleuth Changing Tree
Planet Heroes-Voice Comm
Power Wheels
Samba de Amigo (for Wii, I think)
Subway (eat fresh!)
Fuzion Sports Board
Playmobil (there was some ad for a Roman play set)
Leapster
Kirby Super Star (Nintendo DS)
Hungry Hungry Hippos (who’da guessed?)
Littlest Pet Shop et. al
Transformers: Animated (y’know, the cheap CN version)
McDonald’s
Lucky Charms
Mini-Match
Hot Wheels
Fruit Gushers
Iron Man (the new DVD’s coming out)
If Toonami’s going out, let’s at least put a dent in their pocket book.

@ The SECOND Jason >>Thanks for the notes on advertisers. For that to be effective, we’d need to let the companies that are advertising know that they’re losing money.
I’ll have to print that out and take it Christmas shopping with me. Just to make sure I don’t get anything on that list.

October 9th, 2008 at 6:04 am
@ eugene eaton >> No one here canceled Toonami. AnimeFansOnline is in no way connected to Cartoon Network. We’re just viewers. Well, we were viewers before they started giving us so many reason not to watch Cartoon Network.
October 16th, 2008 at 9:52 pm
Wow, the worst decision ever made by CN. I can remember the very show that got me into CN: DBZ, one of the best animes ever!!! Years ago Toonami was like from 5:00 - Night time, but over the last few years they have pushed Toonami away with stupid kid shows that must have been made by some people constantly tripping on acid. Chowder, Total Drama Island, Johnny Test= The worst stories, and gayest crap ever put on tv. Im happy they put Naruto on Toonami, unfortunatelly the last of the best animes that was ever shown on it. Oh well, CN better hope is has large enough audience of kids and people who put up with the stupid crap CN shows. Fortunatelly for them they decided to put Star Wars Clone Wars on the channel, that and Ben 10 are probably the only shows that will keep CN alive. Shame on you cartoon network >:(
October 29th, 2008 at 6:51 pm
man the only reason i’ve ever watch cartoon network was because of the anime. naruto is only going one episode now, bleach is moving slow and code geass has been moved up to 5am. cn just lost a viewer. they mine as well start a anime channel with good animes and no childish american cartoons. but i could live with ben 10 and avatar(even though it wasn’t on cn.) even nickelodeon has better cartoons now.
November 7th, 2008 at 7:03 pm
wow. thats all i can say is wow. i cant believe they would cancel toonami.why would they do such a thing like that? i mean i grew up watching toonami. i’ve been watching toonami since i wuz about 7 or 8. back then they had some of the greatest shows ever like DBZ, yu-yu-hakasho, rarui- kenshin, dragonball, etc. they also had some other ones like zoids, gundam wing, BIG-O, cowboy bebop, cyborg 009, inuyasha etc. in all it juss pains me 2 know that CN would do such a thing. and in my opinion Toonami was the best thing CN ever had. well know that im no longer 7 or 8 i guess it’s time 4 me and everyone elese who grew up watching toonami to move on..
November 12th, 2008 at 3:23 am
Actually canceling Toomami was the second stupidest thing CN has ever done. the #1 spot goes to moving it in the first place. I could see back and hour or two but to late night then just once a week that is what ruined CN. and resulted in the loss of Tom. I say the should have just put toonami back to the day, slap FMA and another sweet license like bleach or Naruto and wallah reborn. put the more kiddie shows at the start and Finnish it with a bang. then do the whole midnight run thing before AS. I mean in all reality AS is pretty retarded to begin with. they show only 3 true anime, then robot chicken and family guy. everything else on it is crap, more or less. I mean i would give up all those other fillers to have them put up 2 more real anime like gundam, YUYU, Outlaw star, heck Evangellion would be perfect for it. I just cant stand why they go and promote these stupid shows when they are loosing their biggest advantage, ANIME that’s is where most of the cross over in ppl who watch happens. kids watch it teens watch it adults watch it. so play it. give the kiddies their shows but they need to push the anime. you want a lot of kiddie shows watch CB, fox, ABC fam because most of there stuff is fairly kiddie oriented. what puts CN apart is Anime and toonami made that happen. I myself wouldn’t even watch most other stations when i was younger except for that one or two shows that i really liked. anyway enough ranting I don’t know if i could boycott those things, but I can say that when the time comes and CN ratings go down the hole i will be there saying I told you so.
November 12th, 2008 at 8:18 pm
this is some fucking bull shit they took a way DBZ than they put some crap ben ten they could have put on the old school the best of tooniam cartoonnetwork has lost my doller that means I will not any more games they make in least their naruto
November 13th, 2008 at 6:01 pm
I didn’t get cable until 2006, but I think that Toonami should still be on there (hearing that it’s been on Cartoon Network for 10 years or so). This is a little off topic, but I also heard on the news that in 3 years, the Simpsons will not be featuring any more new episodes! It’s like all of the good cartoons are going away! =0
November 14th, 2008 at 12:47 am
–> Quick insert about Simpsons.
It has been on forever and very few things last that long. but toonami wasn’t a show it was a way of life a religion… OK it was just a time slot but if it had to be something else it wot be a nice joint. why a joint? because weed is a gateway drug and for many toonami was our start into the great world of anime.
December 13th, 2008 at 10:34 pm
I can’t believe!!! The only reason I watch CN is because of Toonami. First they took out all the best action anime and now Toonami is gone? CN is going to regret this mistake. 11 years of my childhood is gone…
